OISS Now Accepting Applications for 2008-09 President’s Work Study

OISS Now Accepting Applications for 2008-2009 President’s Work-Study
Application Deadline: May 30, 2008

The Office of International Students and Scholars is now accepting applications for the University of California President’s Work-Study Program for the 2008-2009 academic year. This program enables international students to compete for on-campus jobs just like American students who are in the Work-Study Program. If you receive a President’s Work-Study award through OISS, any department that hires you only has to pay 40% of your salary. The Office of the President pays the other 60%. This makes you a more attractive job candidate since departments do not have to use as much of their annual budget to support your position. You can receive up to $1,000 for each quarter that you are enrolled from the President’s Work-Study award. You can use the maximum amount of the award in one quarter or spread it out over the course of the year.

Eligibility requirements:

  1. You must have a demonstrated financial need.
  2. You must be a full-time enrolled student in 2008-2009 working toward a UCSB undergraduate or graduate degree.
  3. Undergraduates must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0; graduate students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

How to apply:

  1. Pick up an application form from the OISS front desk.
  2. Return the application form with the required information and signatures before 5:00 PM on May 30, 2008.
  3. You will be notified on the status of your application on or before June 9, 2008.

In order to use the President’s Work Study award you must have a job on campus. You can begin using the award as early as July 1, 2008 and you have the option of using the maximum amount by the end of summer 2008. The award does not prejudice continued employment in a campus job or the amount of salary you can receive over and above the maximum amount of the award.
